FAQs

  • What does "Mukashi" mean?

"Mukashi" is a word used to refer to the distant past or a previous era. It can be translated to "in old times" or "long ago."

  • Do you have a shop in NZ?

During the first half of 2010 we were operating a retail outlet in central Christchurch at 96 Victoria St, the building is no longer there due to the earthquake. We opened a much bigger and better store at 297 Cranford St, St Albans in December 2010 but decided to close after the February 2011 earthquake. We feel that the forces of nature do not want us operating a shop in Christchurch for the time being.

We plan to continue our annual sales in Auckland. This sale is located at Jubilee Hall, 545 Parnell Rd. (Part of the Parnell Community Centre.)

  • Do you have an online store?

We do not have an online ordering facility or 'shopping cart' at the moment however we are happy to take your orders or queries via email. Please contact us.

  • Do you ship internationally?

Due to the extremely high cost of shipping individual pieces of furniture and larger items, we do not ship these items internationally. Smaller items (for example vases, plates, fabrics etc) can usually be shipped at a reasonable cost. From Japan we use EMS, this is a traceable, express service operated by Japan Post. More information can be found at the EMS website here or feel free to contact us and we can provide you with a shipping quote.

  • What currency do you use?

All prices listed on our website are in New Zealand Dollars. (NZD) International buyers requesting information about pieces held at our Kyoto warehouse will be quoted a price in Japanese Yen.

  • Do your prices include GST?

Yes, all prices on our website are GST inclusive.

GST only applies to New Zealand based buyers. For buyers outside of New Zealand, we will deduct 12.5% from the listed price (15% as of October 1, 2010.) Please note that this price does not include any shipping and import/customs duties imposed by your country.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

Cash is always welcome, cheques are accepted from pre-approved customers only. We also have EFTPOS facilities at our store for credit (Visa & Mastercard only) and debit card payments. Please note that credit card payments attract an extra fee.

From our international customers, payments can be made in New Zealand Dollars by bank transfer to our account in New Zealand. Alternately we accept payments in Japanese Yen to our Japanese bank account. All bank fees are the responsiblilty of the buyer. Payments by Paypal can also be arranged.
